Set Goals That Help Our Obese Children

By Jared Wadel Platinum Quality Author

In general, the goal is for the whole family to get lots of exercise and eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. The message to obese kids or any children should never be, "You are fat and need to lose weight." Instead, it should be, "We all need to eat right and be active so that we can be healthy.". Remember, the goal with kids is to balance the calories they consume with the calories they burn and let them grow out of any excess weight they may be carrying.

By being active with your kids you are role-modeling healthy behaviors and spending precious time together! Our goal is to provide you with the basic information you will need as a parent or caregiver of an obese or overweight child. We need to return to more traditional ways of eating, exercising and being with our families. Girls whose moms were worried that their daughter would be overweight were more likely to have abnormal eating behaviors.

The causes of obesity are complex, including genetic, biological, behavioral, nutritional and cultural factors. Obesity occurs when a person eats more calories than the body burns up. With a child of any age, it is extremely important not to use food as a reward or to control behavior. These children learn to use food as a stress reliever.

You can encourage healthy eating by serving more fruits and vegetables and buying fewer sodas and high-calorie, high-fat snack foods. Kids need about 60 minutes each day of some sort of physical activity, that involves moving the whole body, not just the thumbs playing some sort of video game, join your child and go for a walk,or go to the play ground, what ever just get moving.Find out more on the youth obesity solution.
