Today's lifestyle for children is raising their risk of obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis and other disorders. Today's parents are having their pediatrician tell them their 11-year-old child has Type 2 diabetes or their 16-year-old daughter has osteoporosis. This sort of lifestyle fashioned by the adults of the past 40 years has led to a 50% increase in the diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, the kind of diabetes that used to be known as "adult onset" because this obesity-related disorder wasn't usually diagnosed until age 50 or older.
It starts with their eating habits. Without healthy foods and exercise your kid doesn't stand a chance. The snack food industry doesn't care what they put in your kids bodies or that their junk doesn't give them any energy to get up and go. They don't care that your kids are hooked on their junk they only care that you come back to their products time and again making them richer every year. Remember that, they do not care what their product does to your kids.
It's time for a change. Don't do anything drastic with your kids, just start small. Start cutting back on their intake of junk foods and fast foods. Replace the junk with fruits and home cooked meals. No time for home cooked meals? Just look on the back of those ready made meals you buy from the store. In some of those ready made meals have over the recommended daily value of salts in one single serve package! I used to be a fan of hungry mans, not anymore just look on the back. Cut back on soda's and anything else high in sugars. Sugar, in the amounts we use of it, is extremely unhealthy. You'd be surprised at how well you and your kids will feel by cutting sugar out of your diet. If your kids are hardcore gamers, you may want to invest in a Wii. Well well worth it. Your kids will be jumping around and getting a good work out. Make sure you get in on the fun too. Simple steps for you to try out. Everyday is a new chance for you to try and help your kids get healthier. Don't wait for the doctor to give you the bad news before investing in your kids health.
Understanding what is making your kids unhealthy when fighting obesity and overall unwellness is the first part of the battle. Making a commitment to provide a healthier lifestyle will save their lives.
