These Early Disease Detection Tips Help Keep Your Kids Healthy!

Keeping an eye on your kids health is fundamental to every parent, and essential to be able to deal with health problems as soon as they occur. The obvious signs you want to see are a healthy tongue free from sores, fresh cool skin with a clear complexion, bright eyes, a cool brow, regular breathing, and a normal abdomen not sticking out abnormally.

A healthy appetite and thirst, with resultant normal bowel movements are fundamental signs of good health in your kids. Your kids should also be cheerful and energetic, with lots of laughter and playtime. When asleep your child should appear calm, with their features relaxed. If your child is frowning, or showing an expression of pain, you should check for signs of fever, or if any bumps and scrapes have happened in rough play. A fever could be the first sign of an onset of illness or contagious infections that kids are prone to.

As a parent it is important that you do the research to familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of the most common infections that kids get including, chicken pox, measles, ringworm, colds & flu. Most common is the ?tummy ache? that can mean almost anything, and while it is normally a 24 hour wonder, it can also be life threatening. This article will help parents to be better prepared to detect an emergency if it happens. That way you can respond quickly and get treatment without waiting unnecessarily.

* Interpreting Symptoms of Abdominal Pain in Children *

Tummy aches are one of the most frequently complained about problems in children. There are many causes attributed with it, and it is a challenge for the parent or the physician to find out the exact problem.

Some cases of abdominal pain need emergency care, so be alert to the degrees of pain you child shows. The causes can be related to food, infections, poisoning, insect bites, etc. Bacteria and viruses are responsible in case of abdominal pain due to infections. Gastroenteritis and stomach flu are some of the examples of infections that can cause stomach aches. Gastroenteritis is the inflammation and irritation of stomach and the gastrointestinal passage.

Extra care must be taken by travelers, as the food and drinks can be contaminated at new locations and can lead to traveler?s getting diarrhea. Stomach pain due to viral infections ward off quickly, but bacterial infections demand the intake of antibiotics. In both the cases, some children recover very fast by vomiting and excreting. In case of diarrhea, excess drinking fluids should be given to the kid to avoid dehydration.

Some stomach aches can be caused by contaminated foods or drinks, or food allergies. Problems because of food poisoning are temporary and can cause bloating. Symptoms of food poisoning are vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea. Usually these symptoms surface within two days of consumption of contaminated food.

Depending on the severity chill, fever, bloody stools, or damage to the nervous system can follow. In case of a group of people who consumed the contaminated food, this situation is known as an outbreak. Over two hundred diseases are known to be transmitted via food. Food can be poisoned because of toxic agents or infective agents. Infective agents are parasites, bacteria, and viruses.

Be aware of various toxic agents like uncooked or undercooked foods, or foods left out of the refrigerator, or simply kept too many days in the refrigerator. Food can get contaminated because of handling by unclean workers at the local restaurant, too. Parents should check out the cleanliness and should visit a trusted restaurant.

Particular foods can cause the irritation, such as diary products can cause lactose intolerance. If this is the case, the child is allergic to certain food or drinks and swallowing even a small amount can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and skin rash.

Parents need to be alert for common food allergies, as that condition is occurring more frequently in kids nowadays than in the past. Since these items are harmless otherwise, such kind of allergic reactions are known as hypersensitivity reaction. Sometimes the symptoms can be life threatening and are known as anaphylactic shock or anaphylaxis.

Poisoning can also be due to overdose of medicines and even due to eating non-food stuffs. Insect bites such as black widow spider bite can also lead to pain in the abdomen. It can be accompanied with muscle cramps, weakness, nausea, tremor, vomiting and in severe case it can cause dizziness, faintness, respiratory problems, and chest pain. Also, the heart rate and blood pressure increases.

If the pain is severe and unrelenting, be aware of the possibility that your child could be experiencing appendicitis. This is a result of blockage and inflammation of tissues. Young kids have a higher rate if complications are considered and should be immediately rushed to the hospital. The pain starts slowly in the abdomen, specifically near the belly button. The pain shifts slowly to the right side of the lower abdomen within a time period of over twenty four hours.

Clear symptoms are abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, fever and loss of appetite. Diabetes can also be a reason of abdominal pain. Small children usually curl up, cry and express pain through facial expression. Some kids will be reluctant to talk, but the parent should try to get clear explanation of the problem.

Along with close monitoring of the symptoms, studying the location of pain, pain duration, nature of vomiting, and urinary problems will help. After that a pediatric should be consulted who can further refer to a gastroenterologist. Parents should do anything they can to keep the child relaxed and calm until help is reached. Often, lying with face in downward direction can relieve pain due to gas. In the case of vomiting and diarrhea, fluids should be given to the child to drink constantly. Parents should wait for approval before they give the kid any solid foods at the time of the attack.

Save Your Kids - Don't Continue to Vaccinate Them!

By Mirdza Hayden

Many doctors are finally realizing that they have been misled when they were taught that vaccines were one of the best inventions ever. They are realizing that diseases did not start to dwindle out because of the vaccines, but rather because of better nutrition. Doctors are realizing that most vaccines are filled with poisons, like mercury and formaldehyde, and that they are actually counterproductive to your health. Not only are vaccines ineffective in reducing diseases, they actually lower the body's immunity to fight off disease and sickness.

I have been researching the subject of vaccines lately since I am so passionate about living the healthiest life possible. After I watched the video titled: "Vaccination, the hidden truth", I have come to the conclusion that I will no longer vaccinate my kids. I refuse to take my kids somewhere and have a health practitioner inject poisons in their body, thereby lowering their immune system. I invite you to watch this video so you can see for yourself that vaccines are not your friend.

I want to give you some tips that will help you keep your immune system strong, thereby reducing the risk of getting health problems. I hope that you will use these tips to help your whole family strengthen their immune system so that you can all live the healthiest life possible.

First of all, concentrate on eating primarily organic foods.

Organic fruits, veggies, meats and dairy products are much better for you since they are not loaded with toxic pesticides or growth hormones. Eating at least 80% organic foods will help you live a lot healthier.

Second, supplement your nutrition with whole food supplements.

Most people need extra supplementation to make sure they are getting all the nutrients their body needs. However, supplements are just that - drinks or pills that supplement your nutrition. You need to make sure you eat healthy AND supplement your nutrition with this whole food supplement, not just expect to be healthy just because you take a multivitamin, or multinutrient.

Third, I recommend that you exercise everyday.

Exercise does wonders for your body. Not only will you look better, you will also feel a lot more energetic and your body will reward you with good health. If you are having a hard time being accountable with exercise, I invite you to join the Million Dollar Body Club. You can even join for free! Not only do you get lots of neat fitness tools and tips to help you lose weight and get fit, you will also get a chance to win cash every day, just for working out!

My fourth recommendation is that you keep your stress level down.

Most of us live in an area that is constantly on the go. We get involved in so many things that we get stressed out over the smallest things. We need to just take a breath and slow down. Stress causes a multitude of health problems, causing you to dig yourself an early grave. Some recommendations I have for you to reduce stress are massaging yourself with therapeutic-grade oils, like those offered by Young Living Essential Oils, listening to soothing music, meditating or/and going for a walk.

My fifth recommendation is that you stop using products that contain toxic elements in them.

Make sure you look at the ingredient list of the products you use on yourself, including shampoos, soaps, lotions and deodorants, as well as the products you use to clean your homes. Make sure that there are no toxic elements in them like aluminum, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or Propylene Glycol, just to name a few. Some companies that offer good products that I recommend are Young Living, Neways and the ONE group. I also recommend the Eco-sense line of products that Melaleuca offers and the Watkins laundry detergent.

My sixth recommendation is that you stop using over-the-counter drugs and talk to your doctor about getting off any prescribed medications you may be taking.

These drugs are very toxic and will never really get you better. You will have to take these for the rest of your life. Instead of using these drugs that are sold by pharmaceutical companies, look for natural alternatives. In our home we use therapeutic-grade essential oils for every ailment. We don't even take an aspirin anymore! Therapeutic-grade oils are a much better alternative to drugs and antibiotics. Do your own research and you will realize that this is true. I invite you to experience for yourself the therapeutic effects that these oils can have not only on your physical body, but also on your psyche. Therapeutic-grade oils support your immune system, supply potent antimicrobials, provide natural pain relief, reduce inflammation, ease stress and anxiety, decrease insomnia, soothe digestive disorders, improve the circulatory system, and much more! Therapeutic-grade oils are a safe and natural alternative to household cleaners and pain relievers. Experience them yourself!

And, finally, I urge you to get enough rest.

Many people don't realize this. They think they can truly survive on just a few hours of sleep every night, but that is far from the truth. Research has shown that our body rejuvenates and cleanses itself when you sleep. It's very important to have good sleeping habits. You will feel much better and live much healthier if you do.

Vaccines are poisons - they are counterproductive to your health and our kids' health. Watch the video I recommended above, and refuse to have your kids vaccinated. The safest way for you and your kids to ward off sickness and disease is by strengthening our immune system by eating primarily organic food, supplementing your nutrition with good whole food supplements, making exercise part of your daily routine, keeping your stress level down, using products that contain only safe ingredients in them, using therapeutic-grade essential oils instead of OTC and prescription drugs, and by getting enough sleep at night. Enjoy living a healthy lifestyle without vaccines!

Comparing Child Care Websites Like Kids Health

By Jeffrey Meier Platinum Quality Author

I was browsing around the net for medical information and ran across this great site called Kidshealth. I knew it had to be a special site right off the bat because of its high ranking in Google (yeah, I know this is not a sure-fire way to tell ... but still!). What really sold me on the site, though, was the site itself. It is a really informative place for people of all ages to find out a great deal of information on various aspects of health and life.

Here are reasons to consider it:

#1: There are three different sections. There is the parent's section, the teen's section and the kid's section. And they are all appropriate for their audience. For example, in the parent's section, you will find tons of ways to feed your children the appropriate food, talk to them about their bodies, and it even touches on more serious topics like helping your children stop smoking. The teen's section gets into topics such as sex, infections and peer pressure to drink, smoke and does drugs; and the kid's section has cute spelling bees and other quizzes that both entertain and educate children about their well being.

#2: They give great advice. I'm always leery about seeking out information on the Internet because I'm never sure about the source providing the information. But this site is awesome in that the information is being provided by the Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media, an organization that was created in 1936 by Alfred I. DuPont as a way to help improve children's healthcare. I must say that they are maintaining his intentions by providing advice on how to stay in good physical and mental health. For parents, they teach you how to talk to your children and cope with emotions and behavior. For teens, they talk about ways to deal with pressure from friends. And with kids, they talk about ways to stay safe when away from home.

#3: They have a great Q&A section. Their question and answer section for each portion of their website is wonderful because it presents real-life concerns that people have expressed in relation to their own lives. And what is cool as that the kid's section also has one. This is important because children think and ask questions in a very different way than adults do. And they deserve to have their questions answered in a similar fashion to the way they think - this is the best way to ensure comprehension.

In addition to the above reasons I love the site is its user-friendliness. It is a really simple to navigate, which is great for the kids. And there is nothing on the site that is inappropriate - all questions asked on the site are screened first before the question, or an answer, is posted.

So what else is there to love? I think the sheer idea that there is a health website dedicated to kids that teaches everyone who deals with them - including them - how to cope with their lives is a wonderful thing. There definitely need to be more sites out like this one that are dedicated to understanding physical and emotional health and maintaining overall well being. If there were, the world would potentially be a better place, right?

Jeffrey Meier at Jam727 Enterprises at http://www.thearticlehome.com blog offers even more detailed information on a wide variety of topics.

Kids Health - Are You Ready For Cold Season?

By Karilee Bingham

With the really buggy season upon us I'd like to take a few moments to talk about the latest in cold treatments for children. The FDA has recently recalled (and others have voluntarily removed from shelves) many popular remedies for children.

  • Dimetapp Decongestant Plus Cough Infant Drops
  • Dimetapp Decongestant Infant Drops
  • Little Colds Decongestant Plus Cough
  • Little Colds Multi-Symptom Cold Formula
  • PEDIACARE Infant Drops Decongestant (containing pseudoephedrine)
  • PEDIACARE Infant Drops Decongestant Cough (containing pseudoephedrine)
  • PEDIACARE Infant Dropper Decongestant (containing phenylephrine)
  • PEDIACARE Infant Dropper Long-Acting Cough
  • PEDIACARE Infant Dropper Decongestant & Cough (containing phenylephrine)
  • Robitussin Infant Cough DM Drops
  • Triaminic Infant & Toddler Thin Strips Decongestant
  • Triaminic Infant & Toddler Thin Strips Decongestant Plus Cough
  • TYLENOL Concentrated Infants. Drops Plus Cold
  • TYLENOL Concentrated Infants. Drops Plus Cold & Cough
  • CVS is also pulling their generic equivalents off store shelves

Here's the scoop: these drugs were never FDA approved for the use in children under 2, and many experts say that they should not be given to children under the age of 6. Medications that are intended to "dry up" those awful runny noses also dry up the secretions in their lungs, making it hard to cough them up. Our lungs are where oxygen exchange takes place, and if there's mucous plugging up the airways, then oxygen doesn't get to where it needs to. Little ones end up in the hospital, and many times intensive care while we undo what these medicines have done.

Be careful with the different colors of medicines!!!!!

Some show a runny nose, others a cough, even more a fever or combination of symptom relief. Giving multiple medications to children can be very dangerous. There are many of the same medications in these different color bottles, and many contain acetaminophen. Thousands of children are accidentally overdosed by well-intentioned parents yearly. This type of drug overdose can lead to liver failure and death.

An ounce of prevention...

Cover your cough and wash your hands often. When you can.t get to a sink, use hand sanitizer, and keep one in your purse. Teach children to do this too! When the kids are sick, take extra care in washing toys.

Sometimes the best medicine is no medicine...Some of grandma's remedies are the best. Make chicken soup, eat a popsicle, drink lots of fluids, and dress your child lightly-do not bundle your child so the warmth from the fever can escape. A little fever is OK for most kids, but talk with your health care provider because all children are different. A fever is the way our body "speeds things up" to become more effective in fighting infection. So for most kids, a temperature of less than 101 taken orally is safe, and they will get healthy faster. Just make sure they stay hydrated by drinking enough juice and water. Also, the use of a humidifier or vaporizer can help keep those secretions moving, but check the filters and use clean water; otherwise you're just blowing pollens and molds into the air!

If your little one develops a high fever (over 101), has pain (besides a mild headache), or has any trouble catching their breath, call your healthcare provider immediately- this is most likely not just a cold. If your child is struggling to breathe, or changes colors (especially if their lips turn pale or blue) call 911- this is a medical emergency.

Also, if your child is less than 3 months old, any fever over 100.4 needs to be brought to the attention of his/her pediatrician.

When you're feeling stressed from taking care of a sick child, just think of those warm windy days of summer when cold season is over (and asthma season is in full throttle)!

Kids Health: Parenting Tips

By Mark M.P.

Kids' health is one of the major problems faced by almost all parents around the world. In most part of the western countries, obesity and over weight problem is causing serious worries to the parents and as well as to the government. Both these problems needs to be controlled at early stages of life; so that future of your kids will be safe and secure from various diseases.

Due to various types of junk foods, such as bakery products, fast food and oily stuffs, health of your child is affected. These unhealthy foodstuffs lead to lack of concentration in school and other learning aspects of social skills. So proper attention towards the health of your kid is needs to be provided by parents and healthy food with sufficient calories must be monitored along with regular exercises and daily workouts. Here are some of the guidelines that will help parents to look after their kids properly.

Carry out regular check up of your kid from family doctor and provide healthy diet to the kid as prescribed by the doctor.

Motivate kids for regular and simple exercises such as walking, daily warm up and if possible swimming.

Most of the parents do not get time to look after their kids and normally kids are on the mercy of the maidservants. This should not happen and regular attention must be provided to the kids so that they are well nourished.Due to various facilities of entertainments such as television, computers, movies and various cartoon channels, normally kids don't get sufficient time to carry out exercises. Thus, yoga is another alternative that can help in reducing extra weight along with improving strength and body coordination.

Avoid providing junk foods, bakery products, chocolates, oily foodstuffs and unhealthy food to the kids. Balanced diet is must be provided to the kids to get rid of avoidable diseases such as obesity and overweight disorders. Healthy eating habits help kids in physical and mental development. So fix proper timing of meals and restrict untimely snacks and various foodstuffs that are of low calorie.

At least once in a day, have meals with kids and tell them the benefits of balanced healthy diet and advice them to stay away from junk food. In most of the cases, it is found that kids follow the habits of parents so it is better that parents should first change their unhealthy eating habits and carry out regular exercises along with kids. This will help kids as well as parents to look after their own health and in turn eliminate chances of obesity and overweight.

By Marisa Robinson

Kids today need Healthy Foods and Snacks more than ever. Poor diet, junk foods, lack of physical and mental activity, cause lazy , over weight children with poor concentration/social skills as well as poor learning skills.

Here are a Few Ideas for Your Kids:

HEALTHY SNACK IDEAS FOR KIDS:

Introducing healthy eating habits to your kids is very important. Especially these days where take-out and drive throughs are very popular. Eating healthy foods and snacks is a very important factor in all children's physical and mental development. Here are some ideas for fresh, tasty, healthy snacks in mid-afternoon and other times of the day.

Things you will need:

  • knife
  • napkins
  • celery
  • cream cheese or peanut butter (or both)
  • crackers
  • olive slices
  • raisins

Have chopped celery sticks on the table. Ask the children if they would like their celery filled with either cream cheese or peanut butter. If they don't want any filling, don't force it. Ask if they would like to decorate their cream cheese with olive slices or peanut butter with raisins.

Do the same as above with crackers. Great choices for crackers are Ritz, Breton, and/or Graham Crackers. Makes a Great, Healthy and Fun Snack for kids.

Have fresh juice, milk or water available to drink.

Circle Idea For Kids Using Balloons:

This Circle Idea should be implemented with children at least 3 years of age and up. Any children who are still in the stage of exploring sensory oraly need to be supervised with great caution. Balloons are serious choking hazards so please use caution when implementing the activities mentioned in this Circle Idea. It is a good idea to go over the safety issues with children so they understand the risks as well.

Opening Song: (sung to - Farmer in the Dell)

Hello to everyone, ( wave to children)

and how are you today?

We come to our circle time,

to laugh and sing and play.

And when you're up you're up, (hold hands in the air)

and when your down your down, ( place hands on floor)

and when your only half way up, (hold hands about chest level)

your neither up nor down. (throw your hands up and down quickly with words)

So roll your hands so slowly, (make fists with hands and roll about chest level like your punching a bag)

and roll your hands so fast, ( same action as above except fast)

give your hands a clap clap clap and fold them in your lap tap tap. (follow directions in this line)

Talk to the children about balloons and balloon safety. Ask open ended questions such as "Where have you seen balloons before?" "What different shapes and colours of balloons can you remember?" "Why or where do we use balloons?"

Have a bag of different shaped balloons with you. Blow up a balloon and talk about the shape and color of it. Ask, "What do you think will happen if I let it go?" ( let balloon go).

Blow up a different balloon and talk about the shape and colour of it. Ask "What do you think will happen if I pull the bottom blow whole tight and slowly let the air out?" (Make high pitch noise with balloon).

Then blow up a third balloon and talk about the shape and colour. Ask, "What do you think will happen if I hold the balloon and let the air come out by itself without touching the blow whole?" (Let the air out so it makes a low airy sound).

Have children stand up and sing The Balloon Song: (tune- Here We Go 'Round The MulBerry Bush)

I'm a balloon can't you see, can't you see, can't you see, I'm a balloon can't you see so please do not pop me. (float/dance around like balloons)

I can fly and dance around, dance around, dance around, I can fly and dance around (stop dancing and say) "OH NO! YOU POPPED ME!"

Have the children pretend the air is going out of them and fly around like the balloons at circle time that lost their air.

Now have all the children sit down in a circle again and hold hands.

Then sing the "End of CircleSong" (tune-Skip to my Lou)

Shake hands with friends 'cause it's time to go, Shake hands with friends 'cause it's time to go, Shake hands with friends 'cause it's time to go.....We'll see you again next time.

3 Mistakes Parents Make With Their Kids Health and Fitness

By Jon Wong Platinum Quality Author

As a youth fitness and performance coach as well as a personal trainer in Singapore, I see many kids and youth athletes each year. I also meet their parents so that we can work together to get the best possible results for the kids. Here are 3 common mistakes that parents commonly make when trying to maximize their child's growth and future health.

Too little activity

Over the past 10 years working as a personal trainer and sports performance coach in Singapore, I have found that the most challenging clients to work with are those who did not do much physical activity in their youth. Your child's coordination is developed before the age of 12 and if it is not done, it will never be. However I see too many children whose parents either don't know or don't care for physical education or activity. These children end up being poor at physical tasks, less likely to enjoy them and less likely to do well in them and carry them on to adulthood. Not encouraging physical activity in your child is a good way to make him or her a fat, obese and unhealthy adult.

Specialization Too Early

At the other extreme are parents who want their 8 year old to be the next swimming, badminton, basketball or whatever sport's world champion. There is no relationship between excellence at 8 years old and becoming a world class athlete.

The mistake parents are making here is sport specialization too early. Before the age of 12 kids should play every possible sport. I like gymnastics because it teaches a lot of coordination. But a large variety should be encouraged. Kids who have a "wide" base of sports skills end up being the best at whichever sport they choose to specialize in future. Early specialization leads to long term mediocrity.

Poor Nutrition

Parents need to take control of their kids nutrition. There are too many advertisements telling parents to buy cereals, juices and breads for their kids to give them energy. Those food companies just want your money. These foods do NOT maximize your child's potential.

Children need more nutritious food like fruits (not juices), fish, meat, vegetables, nuts as well as natural starches like pumpkins, yams and sweet potatoes. Children who eat these foods are less likely to have attention deficit disorder, concentrate better in class, have less mood swings and are more socially adaptable.

Get your kids in shape with these basics and see them excel in the future!

The Benefits of Keeping Your Kids Healthy

Author: Jan Hayner

With the new age of the play station games and surfing the net; it is harder and harder for a parent to get a child to actually get some exercise; So we are living in a world of overweight children that are having a problem in finding things to do using their imaginations.
The common scenario is: "Go outside to play and get some fresh air!" says mom and the comeback is, "There isn't anything to do, and I want to play my new game!"
Remember some of the games you played when you were a kid; Baseball, football, hopscotch, and tag or you would make up games. So, naturally without exercise our kids are getting obese and they are losing creative ability.

But, you can help to reverse the process and it will benefit you in more ways than one, here is the tip to motivating your child, teach them to clean the house, but by using games!
These are just a few ideas, I am sure that after a while, and with a little pushing from you, your kids will think of other ones.

Musical Chores: put on the radio, let everyone pick a chore out of the bowl, they have to work on this chore until the music stops, then everyone switches and goes to the next room.

My Own Duster; give them an old sock, put it on their hand and spray with dusting wax, they each get a room assigned to them and they have to dust every piece of furniture. The idea is that the one that gets their rag the dirtiest and that the furniture is the cleanest, gets to pick out a TV. Show for that night, or a video to watch.

One Minute Cleanup; everyone gets a bag and has to pick up 5 things (number is optional) that are in the wrong place, throw them in the bag and put them in the right place. The winner gets to pick supper for the next night.

My Closet is Better; if there is anything that a child likes, it is out-doing someone else. Have them put the dirty clothes in the wash, hang up their clothes, put their shoes in the closet and have the closet look neater than anyone else's.

Win a Prize; Put small little notes on things that are in the wrong place, if that item is returned to the right place, they win the prize on the note. (A candy bar, pack of gum, doesn't have to wash dishes for a night, can stay up a ½ hour longer etc.)

Now have your kids think of some games and prizes, I am sure that they will surprise you. They have very imaginative minds when they know there is a benefit. By the way mom, your house is clean and I bet you didn't have to do much at all.

Small children usually curl up, cry and express pain through facial expression. Some kids will be reluctant to talk, but the parent should try to get clear explanation of the problem.

After that a pediatric should be consulted who can further refer to a gastroenterologist. Parents should do anything they can to keep the child relaxed and calm until help is reached.
